I should clap my hands and whisper “I believe!” because I’ve just finished reading Neil Gaiman’s STARDUST and it completely carried me away to the realm of Faerie. It was a lot of fun, an enjoyable tale, and left me feeling like I’d been dusted with Faerie glitter…star dust…and that anything magical could happen at any moment. The movie will be out in August, but I suggest you read the book before seeing it, because the book is just perfect, the story very well told, and the illustrations are gorgeous. Then to continue the fun, visit the STARDUST movie website and watch the trailer. Read an interview with Neil Gaiman and illustrator, Charles Vess, where they talk about how the book came to be. Then visit the Gaiman and Vess websites, and finally, listen to some of the magical music of Ilan Eshkeri who is doing the score. Then you, too, will be under an enchantment!
This was my first book in the Once Upon a Time challenge. For those of you participating in the challenge, if you haven’t already read this book or chosen it for your Quest, you must add it to your queue. It’s a fast and thoroughly enjoyable read!

Reading that makes you feel like you’ve been dusted with Faerie glitter? Gaiman must be amazing. Like Jenclair, I’ll need to finish my current stack of books and then move on to Stardust. The anticipation of getting dusted with Faerie glitter might cause me to read a little faster. Take care.

Jenclair, I’ve got Coraline on hold at the library! It’s not on my Once Upon a Time list, but I want to read more Gaiman and I’ve been curious about it for quite awhile!

I’m so glad you enjoyed the book. It really is the perfect way to start the Once Upon a Time Challenge, so much so that I am listening to Neil Gaiman read it to me on CD while I’m driving around this week.
I hope you are as enchanted, or at least close to as enchanted, with your other choices for the challenge.

Gaiman is a great author. I am slowly making my way through his books. I read this one last year and quite enjoyed it. 🙂
I just read Coraline a couple days ago. Great book, although I haven’t reviewed it yet. I am currently reading his short story collection “Smoke and Mirrors”.
I think my favourite by him is a tie between Stardust and Good Omens (which he wrote with Terry Pratchett).

Glad you liked it! Gaiman’s one of my favorite authors. American Gods is one of my all time favorite books. That one just blew me away. I loved Stardust! Quite a magical little book.

Melissa, I’d seen some of my students reading Coraline, but hadn’t read it myself and didn’t even know who the author was…until I starting reading these blogs! And then I read Stardust, because the movie is coming out soon and I like to read the books before seeing the movies. I was hooked immediately!

I just finished “Stardust” as my first Gaiman book. Now I’m reading all the reviews before I do mine. I totally agree with yours, except my copy does not have the Vess illustrations. So I will be looking to buy that. They are beautiful.
