In the last few weeks, I’ve completed most of my 2007 reading challenges. For someone who has always described herself as “not a joiner,” I have certainly enjoyed the challenges I joined this year!
So I’ve been searching for some new reading challenges to replace the completed ones, and just posted about two that I’m happy to be joining: Melissa’s (Book Nut) multicultural Expanding Horizons reading challenge begins in January, and Dolce Bellezza’s Japanese Literature reading challenge just started.
There are some other 2008 challenges that are calling to me, or that I know will be forthcoming, so I may be joining them as well. I guess I’ll have to change the way I describe myself now, because I have definitely become a “joiner“… of reading challenges!
A Fondness For Reading 
Beeee careful! LOL…I am so in over my head in reading challenges for 2008. I’ve committed myself to over 50 books already! It’s probably up to 60 now. I just can’t stop…there are so many great challenges out there!

Those sound like interesting challenges and I look forward to reading all your reviews. I’m busy trying to choose mine for next year too – I don’t want to go berserk but some of them are just too interesting to pass up. š

I echo Chris’ warning š I have become a bit of an over-joiner. But then again, there’s no real harm in not completing them, so oh well!

Thanks for the warning, Chris! You are definitely a passionate reader with over 50-60 books on your plate. But it’s so hard to resist these terrific challenges! And what are they going to do?…Send the Book Challenge Police after us if we don’t finish one! It’s all good intentions…
Cath, going berserk is a good description and a real danger! I’ll try to find a middle ground between not-joining and over-joining! There are just such creative challenge ideas out there!
Thanks, Nymeth! It’s very easy to over-join. But, I’ve really enjoyed the challenges I took on in 2007, and that encourages me to take on a few more. I’ll just try to keep “moderation” in mind.

I’m just like you, Robin. In fact, last year when I was new to blogging, I joined the TBR challenge and later decided to give it up. But now I’m ready! You may have seen the ones I joined on my sidebar. I am officially done with joining for 2008, unless someone comes up with a “J” book challenge. I find it very exciting and good for my brain. I am already thinking about which books from the Canadian and the TBR that I will match with the Birthday challenge so I won’t have three huge books, or three books of the same sort in a month. Great, great fun!

Those challenges are so tempting–kudos to you for finishing the ones you set out to do. I don’t usually have such a good rate of success, so I like to watch from the sidelines and think about the books I would be reading if I joined…

There are some terrific reading challenges for 2008, but there are more than an average reader like me can complete. I think I’m already in over my head. I may have to scrape away some – how hard that will be!

Hi Danielle. When I decided to join my first challenge, I told myself that I would only take on what was actually do-able for me. So far I’ve been pretty good about that. I just need to keep that in mind when tempted by the creativity out there!

There are indeed some great ones coming up. Annie’s What’s in a Name Challenge, the Sci Fi Experience (which is less than a challenge) that I am hosting in January, the second annual Once Upon a Time Challenge, the third annual R.I.P. Challenge, Dewey’s Graphic Novels Challenge, and no doubt many more to come. It is fun to be a joiner if only to have a place to discuss books with other book lovers.

I’m not combining any of my challenges. I have separate lists for the different ones. We’ll see how it all works, but I look at my books all the time and am very excited.
