Instead of Complaining…

It’s hot as H-E-double-hockey-sticks here in the Northwest. We’re not used to the heat, spoiled as we are by our mild climate, temperatures moderated by the ocean, etc. etc.  Most of us don’t have central air conditioning, so all the fans and portable air conditioners in the area are now sold out, and some of us are beginning to complain. I’m a great complainer when it comes to HEAT, but I decided that perhaps I should just take a moment and remember my last prolonged complaining session…(remember all that snow and ice and the snow days that had to be made up at the end of the school year??)…and appreciate what we’ve got!

LOL! Yes, be happy!!! I miss snow something awful, every winter. We’re having a surprising cool spell. It’s muggy and disgusting, but at least it’s not in the 90s or 100s. Wahoo for that. 🙂

Haha! I’m with you, Robin. I’m a big complainer but I’m also trying to remember how miserable I was in the winter here. At least this time we can get out of the house and go to the store or something.

I’m trying to choose books to read right now that are set in cooler climates so that I can live vicariously. I’m finishing one that’s set during an English winter and then I think I will move on to Iceland!

We’re having the opposite problem – temperatures so cool that my tomatoes won’t ripen! I actually like the cooler temps -we’ve barely hit 80 this july – and of course it’s good for my electricity bill, but it’s strange! I hope things cool off for you soon.

How sad for you in the NW to be so hot. Here in the eastern part of Utah we’ve had a wonderfully cool spring and summer. So far. Candleman and I keep commenting on how like Oregon it’s been and since we couldn’t go to Oregon this summer it is nice that it came to us. We have had some really hot days, but I’m forgiving of those since the others have been so lovely.

Kristen, I hope you and your family were able to find cool places to keep out of the record-smashing heat this week. It’s the night time that was so miserable for us. And I have a really hard time with humidity-plus-heat.

Tara, it’s a weird weather year! You know it’s really off kilter when the tomatoes won’t ripen! I hope some warmth and sunshine arrives soon so you can enjoy your tomatoes.

Petunia, I’m afraid I’ll never break the complaining habit…it is too much fun. 🙂

Kailana, that’s the way I feel. I prefer the rainy season. I love the sunshine, but not the heat, so give me a good rain and I’m happy. (and I’ll try to remember I said that when the rains come and there are days and days of downpours!)

Booklogged, it sounds like you’ve had a heavenly summer for that part of Utah! How nice for you. Enjoy!

I heard El Nino was back. This weather has been so odd. My brother lives north of Seattle (Shoreline) and said it hit 105 the other day. Here in Lincoln, however, we’ve barely hit the 90s this summer. It was 57 yesterday morning! Unheard of in late July. Hope it cools off for you soon!
