August 16th…

1969-2

August 16, 1969...the happiest day of my life...

Unless you can think when the song is done

No other is left in the rhythm;

Unless you can feel when left by one,

That all men else go with him;

Unless you can know when upraised by his breath,

That your beauty itself wants proving;

Unless you can swear, “For life, for death!”

Oh, fear to call it loving!

–Elizabeth Barrett Browning

    That is a beautiful picture! Your face is so full of light and joy you look angelic. Happy Anniversary to you! It’s funny for me to think that I was just 1 and a half years old on the day you were married and now here I am posting to you on your anniversary! Life is a wonderful, quirky adventure.
    I hope you are enjoying your day =o)

    Robin,

    First of all happy anniversary! Have we talked about this before? It’s our anniversary as well. 29 for us. A really great day to get married, huh? Lovely picture of you two!

    Aw, Happy Anniversary! I love this photo.
    And, btw, you’re too young to have been married 40 years! ’69 was a good year. My hubby just bought a ’69 VW Bug. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Thanks, everyone, for your good wishes and fun comments. There certainly was a lot happening 40 years ago around this time — visit this very interesting NY Times link for a visual overview of that year: http://www.nytimes.com/packages/html/arts/20090717-1969-feature/

    B and I were so happy to have found each other, but honestly didn’t know if we would have much time for our happiness with the draft looming over our heads and the craziness of that period of time. We have been very fortunate to have so many years together, and haven’t taken any of our time for granted.
