Doctor Who: Blink

I admit to being a long-time fan of the science fiction series, Doctor Who, having gotten hooked on it because our son loved it way back when.  (I even knit the boy a Doctor Who scarf, á la Tom Baker –although I didn’t quite finish it, it was soooo long and took forever to knit. Sorry, Dan!)  Well, B and I have recently gotten hooked on the newer Doctor Who series that started in 2005, and have been watching them all on DVDs.  We loved Christopher Eccleston as the ninth Doctor, and David Tennant as the tenth Doctor. Last night we watched what is now my favorite Doctor Who episode thus far: Blink.  It was so creative, and such a great time-traveler story. I’m not surprised to discover that it won a number of awards, including the Hugo Award in 2008.

It’s a perfect fit for my Sci Fi Experience — Carl V’s fun January-February challenge — because it was creative and fun, and a great Sci Fi experience!

I have seen an episode here and there of the new show and think I would probably really like it. One of these days I will have to try and watch it from the start!

This is my favourite episode too! We just got season 3 for Christmas so we’ve already seen it twice…..I’d seen it two years ago and it was PVR’d until someone accidentally wiped it. I was so glad to see it again. I love this episode because of the creepiness and that there’s love too, which isn’t often allowed to continue in Dr Who episodes! lol Lovely post, Robin. I do have to admit that most of the 1st season is also excellent, with many of the episodes among my favourite, too.

I still haven’t seen Blink and I’ve heard so many wonderful things about it!! I really need to finish up the series (or catch up) and get to that episode! I love it too 🙂

We’re all big Dr. Who fans in this household. My husband and I used to watch the Tom Baker episodes on his black and white TV — Saturday nights in the dorm, way back when we were dating. Then, our eldest became a fan and read all of his father’s Dr. Who books. Finally, along came youngest. Same thing . . . loved the show, read the books. I found the Christopher Eccleston season on DVD at a great price and bought it for youngest for Christmas. He said it was his best gift — except, perhaps, for the cash his grandparents sent, because he *is* a teenaged boy and money is a perennial favorite.

I haven’t seen Blink. Will have to look for that one! I got a set of Star Trek time travel episodes for Christmas. Time travel is one of my favorite things to watch.

I never watched the old Doctor Who but have watched every episode of the new ones many, many times (except for this last pair with David Tennant which I can’t bring myself to watch yet). There are parts of Blink that creep me out but I seriously love the part where he has recorded himself and is speaking to her through time. Amazing!

Kailana, the new shows are really a lot of fun entertainment.

Susan, we did love the 1st season, too. This episode really stands out, though, in what we’ve seen so far. We thought it was very well written and really deserved the awards.

Chris, I think you can actually watch it online.

Nancy, you definitely ARE a Doctor Who family, too! We loved Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor. That whole first season was great. That Star Trek time travel collection sounds really good. I’ll have to look into that…

Kristen, the old Doctor Who-s are really hard to watch at this point in time because the special effects are so cheesy, but they’re fun. And of course they were terrific fun in real time, when we watched them way-back-when, although the special effects were cheesy then, too!!

The hubby and I watched Dr. Who back in the Tom Baker era and were never able to adjust to a different Dr. Who. With BBC America now, it would be easy enough to watch but I feel so lost everytime I try to watch it.
