Completed Call for the Dead, by John le Carré. This was le Carré’s first novel, published in 1961, and the first of his George Smiley books. Yes, indeed, I pictured Sir Alec Guinness as George Smiley all the way through the book. He fits the character so well. I enjoyed this one very much and was impressed by this first novel. John le Carré is an excellent writer, and I enjoy reading his work. I don’t think of him as a writer tied to a genre. I think of him as an author of quality and a wonderful storyteller.
