My life right now is an interesting combination of a rushing blur of activity interspersed with stop-motion moments of beautiful, crystal clarity. My husband and I are preparing to retire at the end of this month and move to our beautiful new old home in Oregon. Making that happen is an enormous undertaking while finishing up our careers, selling our condo, and saying “goodbye” to dear friends and colleagues. OVERWHELMED is an understatement. But it’s all good, [our mantra throughout this time of stress] and we are excited and looking forward to beginning this new stage of life.
So, although life is crazy-busy right now, I am still reading (little bits at a time), and listening, and reading aloud to my Second Graders. Here are the reading delights of the last month:
- Celebrating Barbara Pym’s centenary year by reading all her books this year. I enjoyed the low-key humor in this one.
- Listened to the audiobook version while driving back and forth to school…
- Loved it!
- My students loved listening to the stories in this book!
Good luck on the move. It must be exciting to start a new chapter in your life. Thanks for sharing and best of luck with everything 🙂

Yours is one of my favorite blogs. I hope you’ll be very happy in your new home, and find lots of time for reading! I’ve guessed where you’ll be in Oregon, but won’t spill the beans!

Thank you so much, Andrea! We are so excited to make this move, and I’m looking forward to a summer of reading and gardening. I’m glad you’ve figured out where I will be. Are we fairly close neighbors? I started a parallel blog when we bought the home in Oregon, in anticipation of having long reading sessions on the front porch and time to reflect on all the new changes in our life. I’ll be posting there more often, soon, and I’d love it if you visited there, too! http://grovereader.wordpress.com/

Wow! That’s an awful lot of emotion going on at one time. You’ll probably sleep for a month when you finally get into your new home. Or at least sleep late every morning, which to me is the greatest pleasure. :<) I am really looking forward to your retirement postings, and I'm hoping Tom will do a few of his own. I just bought Miss Read's A Peaceful Retirement. I've read it before but I thought it would be even more meaningful now. I've a quote all ready to put up the day Tom is done. :<)

We won’t be close neighbors – we live on the coast west of Salem – but I’ll wave as we drive south to Grants Pass sometime!

I would imagine that you’re going through a lot of stress right now Robin! Just remember to take a deep breath and you and your husband take care of yourselves too 🙂 It’s a big transition but one that I know you’ll enjoy. And you have some great looking books to keep you company in the meantime 🙂
