January was an enjoyable reading month for me — I read seven books and also celebrated my own birthday as well as the 9th anniversary of the birth of this blog. As usual, my reading was all over the place, from Gloria Steinem’s My Life on the Road, to Anthony Trollope’s The Warden, and each of the 7 books was a good choice for me.
As far as reading challenges go, I usually sign up for a few starting in January, but this year I’ve decided to keep those commitments to a minimum and just focus on my own reading. So I am focusing on my own Goodreads 2016 Reading Challenge, planning on reading at least 75 books, and I joined Emma Watson’s Goodreads feminist book club, “Our Shared Shelf,” and will read the 12 books she chooses for this year. Also, my Mom and I continue our daily phone chats, mostly talking about books, so my reading is strong and healthy and off to a good start for the year. It continues to bring me great joy.
So it is goodbye to January and hello to February which includes an extra day this year for extra reading!

A Fondness For Reading 
I’ve only read one of your books, The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry, which I loved. It’s definitely a keeper and one I hope to read again in the future. I hope you are beginning to dry out and have a little more sunshine than you did in January. We’re enjoying a snow day today. Lots of heavy, wet snow, but it looks beautiful. I’m thankful we didn’t lose any tree limbs in the strong winds earlier this morning.

Ahh, you read The Ghost and Mrs. Muir! I read it a few years ago when I was reading the books of my favorite classic movies. Now you make me want to watch the movie again! Happy February! 🙂

Thanks, Les! I loved The Storied Life, too! Such a sweet book. I also loved The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, which is one of my all-time favorite movies. I didn’t realize there was a book, so when I saw it at the library, I snatched it up. Weather around here ? Still absolutely soggy. This is an amazingly wet El Nino year!

Kristen, I’ve got to watch the movie again, too. It’s always been a favorite but I didn’t know it was based on a book. Now that I’ve read it I realize that they did a great job on the movie — casting, screenplay following the book very closely! The book is a fast read and would be a lovely thing to do on a rainy afternoon!

I have never heard of the Shute book. I’ll look into it. I love his writing so much. And I love the film of the Ghost and Mrs. Muir. I even mentioned it once on the blog a long time ago. I didn’t know there was a book either. For some reason in 2003 I read a few books that were well known as movies. Mr. Hobbs’ Vacation, Father of the Bride both by Edward Streeter, and Mrs. Miniver which was nothing like the movie. All three were wonderful books.
