60% of the way through this audiobook and I can’t stop listening. I’ve been afraid to read it for a long time now but felt it was an important one that needed to be read… The time was right and I found the courage to start it. Now I can’t put it down.
A Fondness For Reading 
I read this book a few years ago and I’m sorry to say that I didn’t care for it. I don’t care for Atwood, but I’ll bet the audio (and movie) are better. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts, Robin.

Les, I’ve only read one other Atwood, many years ago — The Edible Woman. It was too much for me and I’ve stayed away ever since. This one, though, has caught me and I must see what happens. I don’t know yet how I’ll feel about the whole experience…

I read this book many years ago and it made me frightened and sad, but it is clearly seeing new popularity.

Margaret Atwood is very hit or miss for me, but I did like this one. Glad the audio is good!

Kelly, I have to agree with your “hit or miss” response. Like I told Les, I’ve only read one other book by Atwood, and it was a definitely “miss” for me.

Robin, I read this in college when it first came out and I have never forgotten it! At the time I felt like Atwood could read my mind! I felt its truth–it’s one of my favorite novels of all time. I also love her poetry and Cat’s Eye! The film was very disappointing–nothing like the novel. I hope a new generation of readers finds this novel and takes its cautionary tale to heart.

Nebula61, it’s a book that I will never forget! I was afraid I would be overwhelmed and depressed by it, but the storytelling and the writing were so incredible I just couldn’t put it down. It’s a sobering subject but so important to realize what could happen. I agree with your hope that “a new generation of readers finds this novel and takes its cautionary tale to heart.”

I still haven’t found the courage to start this one but it’s on my TBR shelf so that I can grab it someday when I’m feeling up to it.

Kristen, it took me many years to find the courage to read it, but with the HULU version coming out in the spring, I wanted to read it before I watch that. And I hadn’t read any reviews or synopses of it, so I didn’t know anything about the storyline except what was gleaned from the cover. I’m glad I read it.
