This afternoon I finished listening to the audiobook version of the 2nd book in the Walt Longmire series. Death Without Company, by Craig Johnson, was another story that keeps you reading/listening without wanting to take breaks. Walt Longmire, sheriff of Absaroka County, Wyoming, is just a decent human being and a fine investigator. There’s a great cast of characters that help him solve the mysteries that come his way — his daughter, Cady; his lifelong friend, Henry Standing Bear; his deputies, Vic (Victoria) and Ferg; and his ever patient secretary, Ruby. They are all devoted to their boss.
I love it when I have an entire series to look forward to reading! And if you haven’t seen the Longmire TV series, you should treat yourself and watch it. Byron and I enjoyed it very much, and felt they did a great job of casting the characters and staying true to the books. Oh yes, I must admit that I’ve got a big crush on the character of Walt Longmire in both the books and the TV series!
I’m right there with you, Robin – about the crush I mean. I love both the books and the TV series.

Kay, don’t you think they did a wonderful job of casting the actors to play each of those roles in the TV series? Especially Walt!

I tried to listen to the first in the series, but couldn’t get interested. I’ve seen the entire series on Netflix and Walt just doesn’t sound like Walt on the audio. I’ll have to give it another try since so many people have raved about the audio books.

Les, I wasn’t crazy about the first book, either, so I didn’t follow up with the second book for quite awhile. But during the holidays I listened to one of his novellas — The Highwayman — and I really liked it, so I decided to continue with the series. George Guidall does the narration and he is really good in that role, but you’re right, his voice creates a different Walt Longmire than the TV character. I like them both. One more thing, though, this volume was a good mystery, but did have a very powerful scene of violence in it that I wasn’t expecting.

Maybe I’ll try this series on audio in a few years, after I’m finished watching all the episodes available on Netflix. Maybe, by then, I will have forgotten how Walt sounds. 🙂

Yes, Walt is adoration worthy! Our library doesn’t have the audio so I have had to be satisfied with the books and my imagination and that has worked just fine. I do love audio books with a good narrator.

Marlo, I don’t think I’ll listen to all of the books. I’d like to read some of them, too.

Tabor! That’s you! We are waiting for the 6th (and final, boohoo) season to come out on Netflix, too! Both of us have really enjoyed them!
