A Book Obsession

I have a confession to make… I have a serious book obsession. Gardening books are my passion these days and I keep finding treasures that I must have on my shelf!

When we retired and moved to Oregon, we culled our book collections and donated many many books to the local library. Also with retirement, my book buying has slacked off considerably, except for ebooks and audiobooks. But when I see a lovely gardening book, I can’t help myself. My collection is growing, and the photo above is of the two shelves I started out with, but it has already taken over another shelf in this bookcase. Yes, I’m reading them … slowly … but I love looking through them, and love learning and dreaming about gardens.

My 2016 vegetable garden…

Thanks, Debi. I agree with your statement that ‘gardening books just make me feel good.’ With all the stresses and strains we are facing on a daily basis, it’s delightful to open a gardening book and just soak in the beauty!

For me it’s cookbooks. I recently had to finally admit that I owned many beautiful cookbooks that I just wasn’t using. They went off to be loved by someone else and I now try and just check them out from the library, admire them, and then send them back. 🙂

I share the obsession but with all books, not just one type! There was a time years ago when I considered (and tried) not buying so many books, but I decided they give me too much pleasure to NOT buy them. Libraries are fine, but I don’t use them anymore. I have all the books here that I want to read! I love my books. I don’t spend money on much else so I feel fine about my little ‘obsession.’

This is the best obsession, in my opinion. I love looking at all my books and being able to pick up something to read from my shelves on a whim. I don’t have many gardening books anymore, but I have quite a few cookbooks!

How did your vegetable garden do this year?
