It’s time for another “Spin” with The Classics Club! I am enjoying my reading of the classics I chose for my 5-year reading plan even though I’m running behind on writing my reviews. It’s a very enjoyable, non-pressured challenge, so if you are wanting to read more classics, you should join up!
Here’s how the “Spin” works:
Choose 20 books from your list of classics TBR and post that list on your blog before March 9th. On Friday, March 9th, we’ll post a number from 1 through 20. The challenge is to read whatever book falls under that number on your Spin List, by April 30, 2018.
So here is my Spin List. It will be fun to see which number (and which book) is chosen in the “spin” on Friday, and I’ll return to this post then to highlight the book chosen.
Classic Spin #17:
- Rose in Bloom, Louisa May Alcott
- A River Runs Through It, Norman McClean
-
Arabian Nights and Days, Naguib Mahfouz (did not finish)
- The Chosen, Chaim Potok
- The Haunted Bookshop, Christopher Morley
- A Room With a View, E.M. Forster
- Death Be Not Proud, John Gunther
- Tender is the Night, F. Scott Fitzgerald
- Travels With My Aunt, Graham Greene
- The Ramayana, Bulbul Sharma
- The Gaucho Martin Fierro, José Hernández
- The Measure of My Days, Florida Scott-Maxwell
- Excellent Women, Barbara Pym
- The Lost Prince, Frances Hodgson Burnett
- The Story of an African Farm, Olive Schreiner
- A Room of One’s Own, Virginia Woolf
- The Solitary Summer, Elizabeth von Arnim
- Silent Spring, Rachel Carson
- The Book of Tea, Kazuko Okakura
- A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Betty Smith
I have only read no 4 and 20 on this list. Both were excellent. A really interesting list.

I’ve read #1, #6, and #20. Rose in Bloom was one of my favorite books as a kid. I still have my book. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is also a favorite. Hope one of those numbers is selected.

Kay, I can’t believe I haven’t read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn yet. It’s been on my radar for ages! I’m sure I’ll enjoy Rose in Bloom… I loved Eight Cousins!

I loved A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, but didn’t care for the movie at all. Of all the books on your list, I’d like to read A Room of One’s Own by Virginia Woolf.
I draft a list but never got around to posting it. If I were participating, my #3 is Persuasion by Jane Austen. Maybe I’ll give it a try. 🙂

Les, I just reread Persuasion in December (actually listened to the audiobook narrated by Juliet Stevenson). I loved it this time and decided that it’s my favorite Jane Austen, although I do love both Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility, too!
