You know, I may have told you this, but when we moved to Portland years ago, people would say – you don’t need A/C. Then we met some people at church who were from Texas. The lady told me – yes, you will. It does get warm in Oregon in the summer. Maybe not with the regularity that we have here, but still. Good luck! My daughter and I used to go to the mall. Do malls still exist? Ha!
Kay, there is, indeed, a mall in the area (in Beaverton/Tigard). And it’s a nice one. Fortunately, our old house stays pretty cool throughout most of the day on the main level. We’ve had to put in window air conditioners in each of the bedrooms upstairs. Thank goodness for those! This area regularly gets pretty warm in July and August, but this year has also been soooo dry! I don’t remember when it really rained last!
Marlo, that’s a great idea! I’ll have to put together a list of books that take place in colder climates or at a cooler time of year! And I’ll add tall iced drinks to that! Sounds like a fun way to deal with the heat.
You need to spend more time on the coast. I’m freezing today! 🙂 It’s been overcast and cool for the past few days, but no rain. We went to Corvallis last week (CostCo & Trader Joe’s) and it was miserably hot. 93 there and only 63 on the coast. I’d love it if we were 10 degrees warmer, but I sure wouldn’t like the heat you get!
You’re right, Les! We need to spend more time on the coast! It’s so funny to watch Highway 26…we use that corridor often to go shopping and to doctor’s offices. On hot days, the cars streaming out of Portland westbound to the ocean is amazing! We always joke about everybody leaving Portland for the ocean when the heat hits.
Iliana, me too! I am so ready for the season to change. However, it doesn’t look promising any time very soon so cold weather reads will have to suffice.

I recently read a Louise Penny book that took place in February with snow and ice and wind. I think it helped to cool me off a bit! Happy reading.

I’m over the summer and ready for Fall! But, if all else fails, I like Marlo’s idea of “cold” reads!
