Lovely. When we put Tom’s father’s ashes in the woods, we read a few of FDR’s words. He was an old-fashioned Democrat, what they used to call an FDR Democrat, so we thought it was fitting.

Democracy cannot succeed unless those who express their choice are prepared to choose wisely. The real safeguard of democracy, therefore, is education.

Men are not prisoners of fate, but only prisoners of their own minds.

    I am a Christian and a Democrat, that’s all.

I believe that in every country the people themselves are more peaceably and liberally inclined than their governments.

Nan, that’s a beautiful story about Tom’s Dad, and perfect quotes from a great leader. My Mom, too, was an FDR Democrat. She told us that it was the work of FDR that saved their family farm, which they were on the brink of losing. He made such a difference in her own life growing up. And she was devoted to Eleanor, as well.
