A New Library

It’s so exciting when a new library is built close to one’s neighborhood! Cornelius is a town right next to Forest Grove, Oregon, and they have a brand new beautiful library, part of the Washington County Cooperative Library Services. So I visited the library for the first time the other day and took photos to share. Welcome, new Cornelius Public Library! I’m so happy that you are here!

Nicole, I so agree with you that “nothing is better than having a library in your neighborhood.” Our library is just three blocks away, but now we have this new one just 3 miles away! Your trail that leads to a library sounds heavenly!

Les, it’s a nice little library with room for growth. I talked with one of the librarians and they are thrilled with their new space. I love that mural, too. It’s an entire wall in the entryway.

Robin, thanks for sharing this! I do know where Cornelius is and I loved the Washington County Libraries. When we lived in Beaverton, I volunteered at that library the whole time. Loved it. I visited several of the other libraries on Washington County list and also loved the fact that books could be sent from other libraries. That was possible at the Austin Public Library at the time, but that system was not nearly as big in 25 years ago as it is now.

By the way, we’ve been out of town for a couple of weeks. I’ve read your posts, but not commented. Loved all you said and a very happy 50th to you two! Glad you got to spend time with your family and see and sit on the bench in memory of your parents.

Thank you for the anniversary wishes, dear Kay. I’ve been checking to see if you are back to your blog yet. I hope you are enjoying your travels! I love the Beaverton Library, too! The WWCLS system is a terrific one, and they’ve done such nice things. They just created a series of “tiny branch libraries” which are little free libraries located in Hillsboro parks. I just heard about them so I have to learn more about how they work and where they are located…that’s an upcoming project for me!

Love going to a new library. We have several libraries in our city but our main library opened a couple of years ago and it’s gorgeous. Just don’t get to go there very often but this reminds me I should!

Iliana, I love going to new libraries, too! Or to newly remodeled ones! Actually, I just love going to libraries. That’s all there is to it. Every so often, my husband and I make a trek into Portland to go to the Central Library in the Multnomah County system. It’s a wonderful old library in downtown Portland, which is about 30 miles from home. Our favorite way of getting there (although we drive into Portland quite often), is to take the commuter train into downtown, go to the library, find a place for lunch, then head home on the train. It’s a fun day trip which we call our “library adventure.”
