Classics Club Spin #24

It’s time for another Classics Club “Spin!”  Here’s how it works:

At your blog, by August 9th, 2020,, create a post that lists twenty books of your choice that remain “to be read” on your Classics Club list.

This is your “Spin List.”

You have to read one of these twenty books by the end of the spin period.

Try to challenge yourself. For example, you could list five Classics Club books you have been putting off, five you can’t WAIT to read, five you are neutral about, and five free choice (favourite author, re-reads, ancients, non-fiction, books in translation — whatever you choose.)

The challenge is to read whatever book falls under that number on your Spin List by 30th September, 2020.

During this time of continued quarantine for Covid-19, I am enjoying a lot of reading. So here I go again with a list of  books from my 50 books to read before March, 2022.
Please check back here soon to see which of these books I will be reading for the new Spin!

  1. Rose in Bloom, Louisa May Alcott
  2. Barchester Towers, Anthony Trollope
  3. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Betty Smith
  4. A River Runs Through It, Norman McClean

I loved A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and Barchester Towers is one of Trollope’s best! I’ve only read the first one of Pearl Buck’s Good Earth trilogy so I’m curious about Sons. Good luck with your spin pick!

Thank you, Karen! I, too, am curious about the other two books in Pearl Buck’s Good Earth trilogy. She’s one of my favorite authors, and I’ve loved every book I’ve read by her so I’m sure both are really good. I’m glad you loved both A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and Barchester Towers. I look forward to reading them both!

You have such a great list! A Raisin in the Sun is one of my favorite pieces of writing of all time, even if it is a play meant to be performed. I teach it about once per year, usually in my Writing about Literature class. So, yeah, I’m hoping you get that one! 😀

Thanks, Adam! I’ve wanted to read A Raisin in the Sun for many years. It’s time to just do it! It wasn’t the number chosen on my list for this Spin, but it’s moved up higher on my TBR list!

Thanks, Jane. I’ve been interested in Story of an African Farm for a long time. I’m looking forward to reading it soon even though it wasn’t the number that came up for this Spin.
