Long closed due to the pandemic, our library has finally reopened! Hallelujah! On Friday, I visited it for the first time in I can’t remember how long, and it was a delightful 20 minutes I spent there. They have excellent virus protection precautions in place, and as a result, we are restricted to a 30 minute time period. There were only two of us there, besides the librarians, so it was incredibly quiet. Oh, how I’ve missed being able to walk there and spend time exploring the stacks!

Robin that’s great you were able to go back! I went back to the bookstore this weekend so I can relate to the feeling of being back around books π

We have two library systems in our city, one has a sign saying they are opening soon but the City library is not opening anytime soon, as far as I can tell. As much as I use the library for digital resources (ebooks) I don’t go in all that much because our libraries here are not fun to spend time in. They are set-up for gatherings and discussion so it’s loud much of the time. When the university I work for remodeled our library they even put a coffee shop right in the middle of the main floor so espresso machines and burned bagels part of the experience. I miss the quiet spaces.

Ti, thatβs a really different library system than Iβm used to and Iβm not sure Iβd care for all the hubbub. I prefer those quiet times, exploring the stacks. But Iβm like you, I use the digital resources much more nowadays, not just because of the pandemic, but for me because itβs easier on my eyes to read an e-book.
