Albert Bartolomé, 1883: The Artist’s Wife Reading

I think it’s a winter’s day thing…curling up with a good book on a gray cold day. We’ve had quite a few of those days in the last month, plus a lot of fog that keeps the gray in place almost all day. So I found myself craving mystery books! Good detective work, a captivating puzzle to solve… So there has been a flurry of mystery reading here.

  • Mrs. Pollifax Pursued, by Dorothy Gilman. The 11th book in the series that I am rereading for fun and pleasure. It’s lots of fun reading about the antics of this spunky elderly spy!
  • Murder is Binding: A Booktown Mystery, (#1 in the series), by Lorna Barrett. A small town in New Hampshire full of bookstores…a murder in the next door cookbook shop…and a new bookstore owner with a knack for solving the mystery!
  • Shakespeare’s Landlord, by Charlaine Harris. A kick-ass heroine in a small town in Arkansas. Lily Bard is a survivor of a brutal attack, and moved to Shakespeare because she thought it was fitting place to start over given her name.
  • Shakespeare’s Champion, by Charlaine Harris. The second book in the Lily Bard series because I didn’t want to stop reading about her.
  • Shakespeare’s Christmas, by Charlaine Harris. Third book in the series that I just can’t stop reading!
  • Booked to Die, by John Dunning. The first book in a series I’ve long been interested in but never read.

    I love good mystery series and will try some of these. The Shakespeare series sounds especially intriguing. I have loved listening to Andrea Camilleri’s Inspector Montalbano series. I have not read them in order and it doesn’t seem to make a difference.

    Some old friends in your list! Years ago, I was on the DL list, and I learned tons about mystery authors, and my love for mysteries has increased over time.
    John Dunning! Those are great books, and just reading the title makes me want to read it again! And Mrs. P! You know how much I love her.
    I did read that first Barrett book, bcause it is set here! But I never read further. Not sure why.
    I steered away from the Charlaine Harris just because of the attack mention. I didn’t know if it would be too upsetting.
    If you haven’t read Elizabeth Peters’ Amelia Peabody series, you are in for a treat. Intelligent, excellent series. And another fave of mine is Rex Stout. I bet you have read both and I have just forgotten haha

      Thanks Nan, I need to get to the Amelia Peabody series, too! I’m sure it’s one I’d love! I haven’t read any Rex Stout, but will add that to the list, as well.

    Robin, glad that you are enjoy some nice mysteries during your foggy times. We’ve been having lots of wind here. Mostly sunny days, but the wind is quite annoying actually. Keeps trying to blow my hat off. Ha!

    I read those Shakespeare books by Charlaine Harris many years ago. Not sure if I read all of the, but those were the days long before she did her Southern Vampire series. I really don’t recall much about them. As Nan said, I was also on the DorothyL list and have always read a lot of mysteries. Mine are bit further from the cozies than hers though. LOL

      Kae, I would have loved being part of that DorothyL list experience as I have always loved mysteries! I’ve never read any of Charlaine Harris’s vampire series, but I discovered with this Lily Bard series that she’s a really good writer.
