A Bit Obsessed

I have to confess that I’ve been a bit obsessed in the last few weeks. Pinterest does that to one, of course. One quiet afternoon, I decided to start a new Pinterest page dedicated only to my reading and connect it to this blog. It was so much fun setting it up and then searching for the photos I wanted! So if you have a quiet, lazy afternoon, perhaps you could check it out. It’s just another place to share the books I have read and loved over the years!

Preparing for Book Club Discussions

The two photos above show how my Mom prepared for book club discussions. I brought these two books home with me after she passed away three weeks ago, and I will never move the colored tabs she put there because they are such a delight to see! This is the way she always prepared for her book club, whether the one she lead at the Mt. Olympus Senior Center for 14 years, or for the local library book club that came once a month to her assisted living facility. She loved to read and talk about books, and she prepared well for the group discussions often reading the book twice, always marking the important points she wanted to remember.

A Book Obsession

I have a confession to make… I have a serious book obsession. Gardening books are my passion these days and I keep finding treasures that I must have on my shelf!

When we retired and moved to Oregon, we culled our book collections and donated many many books to the local library. Also with retirement, my book buying has slacked off considerably, except for ebooks and audiobooks. But when I see a lovely gardening book, I can’t help myself. My collection is growing, and the photo above is of the two shelves I started out with, but it has already taken over another shelf in this bookcase. Yes, I’m reading them … slowly … but I love looking through them, and love learning and dreaming about gardens.

A Book-Spine Poem

A book-spine poem from my bookshelves for you this morning, friends. Have a lovely day!

Early morning
The writer in the garden
Green thoughts
Harvest of yesterdays
Delights and shadows
Walking in the beauty of the world
Take Joy

Grocery Store Books

grocery-store-books

It’s been a very busy day and I didn’t think I’d have time to put together a blog post. But after a trip to the grocery store, where I saw this display of books that looked awfully yummy, I decided that a simple book photo was just right. I didn’t buy any of the books, but I’m going to look at the library to see if any of them are available there. About three years ago my doctor recommended a completely whole foods plant-based lifestyle change for me, so I fix a lot of different combinations of legumes/vegetables/rice “bowls” as meals and enjoy them a lot. These books had lots of ideas that looked, like I already said, yummy.

Mutiny on the Bounty

Mutiny on the Bounty was a book I first read as a young teenager and loved! The series was quite a story, quite an amazing true-life adventure! I remember being completely lost in the three books one summer long ago.  Mutiny on the Bounty was followed by Men Against the Sea, and then by Pitcairn’s Island, all written by Charles Nordhoff and James Norman Hall. Great summer reads! (There is also a children’s version of this story, called The Mutiny on the Bounty, by Patrick O’Brien. Click here to read my review.)
