I am completely immersed in this book: The Golden Compass, the first book of Philip Pullman‘s His Dark Materials series. I read it long ago, (in 1996 to be exact) and remember liking it, but not loving it, and I didn’t continue with the series when the other books were published. What was I thinking? Where was I at that time in my life? Reading it this time, I can’t put the book down! And I can’t wait to read the other books that follow! It just goes to show that “timing” is a very important part of one’s reading.
A Fondness For Reading 
I read this years ago. Like you, I liked it, but didn’t love it. Wonder why we felt that way? I wonder if I should give it a second chance.

A friend of mine emailed me a few months ago raving about this series and asking if I had read it and recommending it to me if I hadn’t. I, of course, had already and we sung its praises in some back-and-forth emails. I’m glad it’s impressing you more this time through. It’s definitely a series that pays off if you read to the end. 🙂

I read all 3 a few years ago and loved them! I often wonder why they never made the other 2 movies as I thought the first movie was pretty good

I read the first book ages ago, too, and didn’t get blown away by it so I didn’t read the sequels… Maybe I should now!
