Yes, you may recommend those two, Kay! I’m so looking forward to finally reading them both! 😃

I have your number 10, and your number two in alternates – unread. I’m not sure I’ve ever read A Room of One’s Own.

Nan, I’ve had the Beatrix Potter book for awhile now and just haven’t gotten to it. I look forward to finally getting to all of these! A Room of One’s Own has been on my list forever!

I adore A Room of One’s Own (and all things Virginia Woolf, to be honest). I’m kicking myself for not incluing A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and The Princess Bride on my list. I say, every year, that I’m going to read these, but I never have. The Book Thief is also a favorite… I’ve taught it twice. Just a wonderful book!

Adam, I loved reading Virginia Woolf’s diaries and letters, but I’ve read very little of her fiction. ‘Tis time! Thank you for hosting this challenge. It’s just the motivation I need to pull these off my shelf and read them!

A Room of One’s own is actually non-fiction (a long essay derived from a series of lectures she gave at Cambridge). I think you’ll enjoy it, though. As for her fiction, I love that, too! Orlando is one of my favorite novels, period, but from Woolf, I also love Mrs. Dalloway, The Waves, and Jacob’s Room. I need to re-read To the Lighthouse because I tackled that one years ago when I had no idea what I was getting into, and I did not like it. I think I’d have a different reaction now, though.

A Tree Grows In Brooklyn! The Princess Bride! Both are awesome! (And pretty different from one another. lol)

Kelly, I’m looking forward to finally reading both of them! Yes, very different from one another…that’s what you find when you collect books on a shelf for many many years! It’s a real hodgepodge!

I’ve seen A Tree Grows in Brooklyn on so many lists! I started it last year and was really enjoying it but put it down and accidentally forgot about it, so I’ll have to get back to it this year. Have fun with your reading!

Kristilyn, it’s probably one of the oldest books on my TBR shelf. I remember hearing about it while I was still in high school. A few years ago I read a book about the books that were the favorites of the soldiers during World War II, and that was the top one on the list! So my TBR list is full of “it’s time to read these now” books, and it’s definitely time for this one!

I agree with the others about A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and The Princess Bride, but if you only read two, my favorites are The Book Thief (it’s on my lifetime Top Ten list) and Being Mortal (which inspired me to be where I am today). Powerful writing in both of these books.

Les, it’s definitely time for me to read both of those!

The only books on your list that I’ve read are The Book Thief and The Princess Bride, but The Book Thief is one of my all-time very favourite books – though also fairly devastating. I haven’t read Being Mortal yet, but I really enjoyed The Checklist Manifesto by Atul Gawande, so I am looking forward to reading Being Mortal some time soon. All the best for your challenge 🙂

Thanks, Louloureads! I’ve been a little fearful of reading The Book Thief because of that very thing, but I think I’m brave enough to take it on now. It’s time! And so many of my book friends love it.

I’ve been wanting to read The Princess Bride for years. It’s one of my favorite movies, so much so that I am afraid of reading the book, in a weird way. I don’t want it tainted either way. I should totally give it a read this year, though. Or maybe on audio? That might be cool.
If Cary Elwes narrated it I would lose my mind. Great list!

Thanks for your comments, Rick! The movie is one of my all time favorites, as well. And I have to admit that I, too, am a little afraid of reading the book. I don’t want anything to change my response to the movie. But I’ve heard it’s a fun book, and it’s been sitting on my shelf for years and years, so I think I will try it. I like your idea of listening to the audiobook, especially if Cary Elwes narrated it. He doesn’t, but Rob Reiner does (through Audible), so perhaps I’ll go that route!
