It’s a wonderfully noisy, fun afternoon in Seattle. Seafair happens every summer, and the best part of Seafair is the performance of the Blue Angels. So the skies are noisy this afternoon, as we all enjoy the sights and sounds of Seafair!

You’re so lucky to have such things nearby. We saw the Blue Angels during our year in Michigan. Somewhere around here, we still have the Blue Angels cap we bought our then 5-year-old (who turns 23 next month, yeeks!).

I have a soft spot for the Blue Angels because it was “fleet week” in San Francisco the week my husband and I got married, and the Blue Angels kept flying over every wedding-related event we had! Enjoy the noise!

Someday, someday I’m going to go see them when they perform at the Naval Academy here in Annapolis. I’ve heard so many amazing things about them!

I love the Blue Angels. I used to live near Miramar in San Diego and the jets used to fly right over our house. I think I was a fighter pilot in another life. 🙂

Bookfool, Gentle Reader, Heather, and Les,
It’s always fun to have them return to the area. We don’t usually go to the lakeside, with all the crowds, and see the real close-up performance, but being anywhere in the area is a thrill. They flew right over our house as they left the area late yesterday afternoon, and seeing them (and hearing the noise!)was thrilling.

The city of San Francisco has recently banned the Blue Angels during our upcoming fleet week due to possible danger.
The planes used to fly over my building, then take a deep dive and whirl around near Fisherman’s Wharf. I know fleet week brings lots of revenue into the local merchants, but danger has been an issue. That there hasn’t been an accident doesn’t negate the possibility of one. We’re talking about 350,000 people–roughly half the city’s population whose life that these fighter planes threaten.

Matt, I certainly understand the safety concerns, but I think it would be difficult to ban them in Seattle because of our long-term relationship with the Blue Angels, and because of Boeing and our love affair with all things to do with airplanes.
