Gray Day Reading

Living in Oregon means long months of dark gray skies and rainy days. I don’t mind the rain. It doesn’t stop my walking routine. “We’re waterproof,” says my walking buddy. But the endless days of gray are harder to bear. One way I deal with the grayness is to read gardening books. It’s a fun and educational gray-season focus for my reading, and I love the colors these beautiful books bring to gray days!

We’ve had a lot of rain lately but this weekend has been beautiful. I don’t mind cold weather but I do miss the sun. Glad you were able to find a way to think of sunnier, colorful days!

Iliana, a lot of people have trouble with the endless string of gray days of the Northwest winters. There’s a high incidence of Vitamin D deficiency, for one thing! I love the rain and don’t mind the gray, although it does get to me every once in a while. The gardening books and lots of reading help me through those months. (And the fact that spring starts very early in this climate!)

Yes, I did OK with the gray skies when we lived in Oregon, but my Texas-born-and-bred husband just could not take it. He had to come home where (as Iliana shared above) we’re having sunshine this weekend. Gardening books sound like a good plan for you – though I am no gardener at all. LOL

Kay, I feel for your husband! I’ve known quite a few people that couldn’t stand living in the grayness and moved to sunnier climates! I don’t mind it until winter has just dragged on too long. Then I start complaining, and that helps.

So far, I haven’t had any trouble with the gray days in Oregon. We seem to get a few days of gray, rainy weather and then we have a gorgeous sunny day or two. I never feel like the darker days last too long, especially if I can walk out to the bluff and see the ocean. That always makes everything better! 🙂
